Landscape Practise

Going to try and paint a landscape this week.

I had a dream wherein my astral form was devoured by a bloody maw beneath the earth with ten thousand eyes, so I figured it was probably a warning that I hadn't drawn Cthulhu in a while. Whelp, here's what I got.

Final Self Portrait Brief

I wasn't at all happy with the old self portrait, so I decided to paint a new one. The idea is similar (silly face; fade-to-black) but I'm much happier with this outcome. I dabbled in adding colours but feel the grayscale image look nice enough.

Nightcrawler

I improvised with the costume a bit, to try and compromise between the two pictures linked with the brief. 

I guess I'm kind of happy (perhaps, maybe, a bit but I suppose not really (or at least far from entirely)) with it; I went with the Daarken approach. I like the vivid red against the desaturated blue background.  Not sure about the rest. Don't like the hair or the face but then, the hairstyle is not of my design.

Some thumbnail sketches for the robot brief; going to go with the bottom leftmost sketch. a robot with a sword and shield seems less of a cliche than the others.

I've a clear direction to go now, and I'm only half-unimpressed by the design after being stumped for a couple of hours about where to go.

This is the furthest I've got so far; I've been working on the floor without a desk which has made it finicky and awkward to even trawl for funny cat pictures let alone paint, so I've not come as far as I'd liked and I'll have to finish this over the weekend. The accumulated work is definitely over 8 hours.

Oh and as to my absence: I've a doctors appointment today, sorry for not being present to fill the room with joy and raucous laughter.

War Brief - Initial Stages

I want to look at protests rather than full out war scenes (partly due to a full blown war painting isn't realistically achievable by this week). Also spider war machines because they're machines with legs, and I like machines with legs.

Here's a sketchover initial idea.

Sure, the mechs could walk over the man, but that wouldn't make for as cool an image.

Self Portrait(s)

Wish I'd have started this earlier instead of trying out the other idea first, I'd have probably been happy with it then. I'll call it done for the sake of deadline, but I could work on it a lot more.

Here're a couple things that have managed to prevail against the black hole like pull of the my sketch folder- and even then, one's a WIP and will likely remain that way; I can't see it working out.
